2017, 17 MARCH - PRESS RELEASE ON THE PROFESSIONAL MEETING OF LIBRARIANS FROM EDUCATION IN THE NORTH OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA
...On..March..17, 2017, at the Scientific Library USARB held the professional workshop for Schools Educational Librarians in the North of the Republic of Moldova. The workshop attended 60 college, vocational, schools librarians and specialists responsible for the activity of school libraries in the North of Republic of Moldova, Briceni, Donduseni, Drochia, Edinet, Falesti, Floresti, Glodeni, Ocnita, Rezina, Riscani, Sangerei, Soroca, Soldanesti, Telenesti, Ungheni and Balti.
The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Culture, the Library Association of Moldova (ABRM), the Northern Education Libraries Branch (BIN) of the Librarians' Association of Moldova, Departmental Library Center of Scientific Libarary (Order of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova No.02 of 13.01.2016) and with Rectorate support departments of “Alecu Russo” Balti State University. The meeting moderator was Elena Harconiţa, Director of SL USARB, the President of the Northern Education Libraries Branch (BIN) of the Librarians' Association of Moldova, member of the National Librarianship Council, member of the Council of Educational Libraries.
Gheorghe Neagu, Associate Professor, PhD, the Vice-rector of Department of Part-Time Studies and Contiunuing Education, welcomed the librarians, stressing the importance of these collaborations and mentioning the merit of the Scientific Library as Ambassador of the University. Mr. Vice-rector offered the participants a set of USARB promotional materials and posters for dissemination to graduating high schools students in the northern area in view of their selecting their field of study in Balti university.
Ana Plămădeală, Senior Consultant at the Ministry of Education, E-Transformation and Computerization Department, has reviewed (through Skype) the achievements of libraries in education in 2016 and priorities for 2017, informed about the legislative news about libraries, referring to the component of the Council of Educational Libraries section of the Ministry of Education website, where to take action about the annual activity of libraries in the field of education. Mrs. Ana Plămădeală has the great merit of increasing the visibility of schools and university libraries through inaugurating and maintaining the Ministry's website and her calling librarians to be open to collaboration, organization of various professional meetings with the support of the national public authority.
Elena Harconita, Director of SLUSARB, sent a message of greeting from Ecaterina Rudacov, consultant at the Ministry of Culture, Policy Analysis, Monitoring and Evaluation Department, who assured the soon approval of the Law on Libraries and the increase of librarians' salaries by 30%.
Elena Harconiţa reported on the Draft Law on Libraries, approved by the Government on 25 January 2017, discussed at the Parliamentary Commission on 22 February 2017, calling librarians to participate in the activities “The National Library of the Republic of Moldova - 185 years from its founding”. In the SL USARB plan dedicated to the celebration of the most important Library of the Republic, it includes making Poster “Northern Education Libraries Branch (BIN)” and the film about the activities of Northern Education Libraries Branch (BIN) for several years.
The director invited the colleagues to celebrate in partnership the Librarian's Day in Moldova and the Library National Awareness Day, including within the framework of the LNNS - Erasmus+ Program, on 27 April, by organizing various events that would emphasize the place and role of the Library and Librarian in society. Also, Elena Harconita presented the results of the 6th C-year School Libraries Activity Statistic Survey (2016) of Republic of Moldova and the comparative study 2015-2016 on the 15 districts schools libraries in the Northern Republic and the Balti municipality.
Daria Zaricinaia, methodologist, OLSDI mun. Bălţi, reported about the Decade of the school libraries developed according to the annual plan of OLSDI from 06.02. - 13.02.2017 in the educational institutions in Balti.

The workshop continued with the presentation of the Moldovan Standard SM ISO 11620: 2016 Performance indicators for libraries: calculation methods. Ludmila Raileanu, Head of the Collections Communication Service reviewed the new indicators, presented samples for calculating the indicators based on the statistical data of the SL USARB. Ana Nagherneac, Head of the Bibliographic Information Research Service, presented Nomenclature - the Framework of Processes and Technology Operations, Cycle V. Bibliographic and Documentary Information in the School Library. Olga Dascal, principal librarian, Computer center and Networking Activities. Mediateca, reviewed new sources of electronic information (useful links, virtual libraries, blogs, e-book, thematic resources) in support of librarians in education. Tatiana Prian, principal librarian, Center for Informatization and Networking, informed about the technical changes in the Annual Statistical Survey, the automatic calculation of library's existing collections and answered at the questions about BIN database edits in Google Drive at Organization Chapter.
Elena Stratan, Head of Research Service. Specialist assistance, informed about the situation regarding the payment of ABRM membership fees.
In Moldova, the year 2017 (the composer celebrates his 80th birthdays, respectively) were declared the Year of Eugen Doga. Elena Ţurcan, librarian of Collection Communication Service presented the exhibition Eugen Doga at 80 Marţişoare, including documents about the life and activity of the great composer. Some works of deep vibration of the European composer were heard by the participants.
The meeting of information specialists in the field of librarianship in Balti was also an action that emphasized the necessity of continuous training in order to recognize the value of the modern librarian, increasing the contribution and visibility of librarians in ensuring a high quality education in the Republic of Moldova.
Meeting participants received the electronic format of all informative and didactic materials, and they will use them in regional and institutional activities.
